Why Clear Aligners

A woman inserting clear retainer in Sherwood, OR.Traditional metal braces may have been the only treatment available for improving tooth alignment in the past, but not anymore. Today, there are many different options for orthodontic treatments. Senestraro Family Orthodontics provides several of these options, including clear aligners. Here’s why you should consider clear aligners.

Incredible Aesthetics

Clear aligners offer the greatest aesthetic benefits of any orthodontic treatment available. While there are treatments like ceramic braces and Damon Clear, these options are not completely invisible. Clear aligners have no protruding parts and do not have any metal in them. They fit perfectly over your teeth and disappear from view.

Eat What You Like

There is a long list of foods to avoid when wearing braces. You need to stay away from foods that are hard, crunchy, and chewy. You may need to avoid eating certain things at a family picnic, like a whole apple, raw veggies on a crudité platter, or corn on the cob. While there are plenty of things, you can still eat, altering your diet can be difficult. Clear aligners are removable. They are meant to be taken out when you eat. This means you can eat all of your favorite foods throughout the duration of your orthodontic treatment.

No Oral Care Challenges

Aligners are also meant to be removed when you brush and floss your teeth. You do not have to worry about brushing around brackets and flossing under wires. Without a fixed appliance on your teeth, you can brush and floss your teeth just like you always have.

A More Comfortable Treatment

Braces can be rather uncomfortable, especially after adjustments. It is not uncommon to experience discomfort for several days after an adjustment has been done. Additionally, the brackets can rub your intraoral tissues, resulting in sores. Clear aligners are smooth. As a result, there is no irritation to the tissue.

Fewer Disruptions in Your Schedule

With any type of orthodontic treatment, regular appointments are necessary. This allows us to monitor the progress of your treatment. With traditional braces, these appointments are typically every 4 weeks. This can pose many disruptions in your normal schedule. For patients with clear aligners, regular visits are spaced out further apart, usually between every 6 to 8 weeks. As a result, you do not need to worry about as many disruptions.

Complete Your Treatment Faster

Treatment with braces can take anywhere from 1 to 3 years. Your total treatment time will depend on the severity of your alignment issues and how well you take care of your braces. Damon System braces can cut treatment time by about 4 to 6 months or more. Treatment with clear aligners is much shorter than braces. On average, it takes between 9 and 18 months.

In many cases, it can take less than 12 months to achieve results. There are a few factors that can affect your treatment time, including how well you comply with wearing your aligners. Making sure to wear them at least 20 hours a day is essential for the best results.
